Prague is one of my favorite cities in Europe. I’ve loved coming here since I first visited in 2006. The winding cobblestone streets, medieval buildings, and sprawling squares give the city an unparalleled historical appeal.
Prague’s popularity has skyrocketed. It’s crowded in the summer, and I don’t even feel like there’s a low season anymore. Just people. All the time. The rising popularity has led to countless new developments, hostels, and hotels. And even though it’s a small city, where you stay has a big impact on how crowded you find the city.
1. Hotel Metamorphis
This four-star hotel is located in a historic building right near Old Town Square. Rooms are bright, spacious, and airy, with plenty of natural light. The decor is a bit dated, but rooms are decorated in bright colors and with special touches like exposed beams or unique tiles. Rooms also include a flat-screen TV, minibar, desk, and coffeemaker. The bathrooms look a little dated, but are super spacious. A tasty breakfast of eggs, meat, and fresh bread can be included in the price (it’s in a nearby building, though, so you’ll have to walk a few minutes to get there).
What makes this hotel an excellent choice, besides its convenient location, is the on-site beer spa. Guests can bathe in a wooden vat filled with beer while drinking unlimited beer. It doesn’t get more Czech than this!
2. Czech Inn
This three-star is part hotel, part hostel, so there are both private rooms and dorms here. It’s a solid no-frills choice that’s more sociable than your average hotel, with free walking tours and a lively on-site bar where it’s easy to meet people. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and offers plenty of variety (and it’s affordable, too). There’s also a well-equipped kitchen should you want to cook your own meals.
The decor is rustic, with plenty of exposed brick throughout. Private rooms are colorful but simple, with lots of natural light that contrasts with the darker colors and furniture. Some rooms even have hardwood or parquet floors. Rooms include a TV, coffee/tea maker, and work desk. It’s also just a minute’s walk from the city center. Overall, it’s a great value choice for budget travelers who want a central location.
3. Augustine
Set in a still-active monastery from the Middle Ages, this posh five-star hotel has 100 large rooms spread across seven buildings. There’s a luxurious spa on-site, as well as a 24-hour fitness center with a sauna and steam room. Each room is large and airy, with lots of natural light. Rooms feature stylish furniture, including sofas or armchairs, and historic details like exposed beams. Beds are super comfortable, and rooms also include a flat-screen TV, minibar, and coffee/tea maker. Bathrooms are large and elegant, with beautiful tiles, great water pressure, and even a bidet.
There’s a lovely courtyard on-site and a delicious breakfast (which isn’t cheap, though), but what really sets this hotel apart is the basement bar, which serves home-brewed beer made using the recipe of the monks who live in an adjacent building.
4. Botanique Hotel
This four-star hotel in Karlin, a popular foodie district, is chic and minimalist with an emphasis on being eco-friendly. Recently renovated rooms feature lots of light wood, soft colors, and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. Rooms are also spacious and include a flat-screen smart TV, a desk, a mini-fridge, a Nespresso machine, and free bottled water. Bathrooms, which are also spacious and modern, feature organic bath products as well as high-pressure rain showers.
There’s both a fitness center and a restaurant on-site that focuses on local and seasonal ingredients. Plus, an excellent breakfast buffet is served every morning with a ton of variety (including plenty of gluten-free and vegan options).
5. Art Hotel
This artistic property is located near the National Gallery. The avant-garde hotel also has its own collection of Czech modern art. Each boutique room features unique artwork and stylish decor with lots of neutral tones and wooden furniture. The rooms are really bigand have large windows that let in plenty of natural light. They also feature comfortable beds, desks, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffee/tea makers. Bathrooms are basic but have excellent water pressure. Breakfast also offers a decent selection, although the vegetarian options are a bit limited.
This hotel is a good choice for travelers looking to enjoy the city’s nightlife, as it is located in VrÅ¡ovice, a popular bar-hopping area that gets busy on weekends.
6. Dancing House
This is the most unique hotel in Prague. The four-star hotel is housed in a dynamic building designed by Frank Gehry and offers views of Prague Castle and Old Town (the iconic building looks like it’s moving, hence the name). Upscale rooms are sleek and minimalist, decorated in stylish neutral tones. Beds are super comfortable, and rooms also feature a flat-screen TV, coffee/tea maker, electric kettle, desk, minibar, and excellent soundproofing to help you get a good night’s sleep. Bathrooms are large and include free toiletries, a bidet, and showers with removable showerheads and great water pressure.
Breakfast has plenty of variety, including plenty of fresh fruit, and there’s both a bar and restaurant on-site. The hotel is located in Naplavka, a riverside neighborhood teeming with bars and restaurants. This is the perfect choice for travelers who want a unique and memorable stay (and it’s surprisingly affordable too).
Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. This means the city is very popular and there are a ton of hotels to choose from. Choose one from the list above and you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic stay in this postcard-perfect city, whatever your budget.
